Definitive Reviews of London’s Indian Restaurants

Akash 7

It could be easy to miss this restaurant if you’re rushing up the Edgware Road; it’s quite small and the entrance is tucked away underneath a staircase. Even so they must be doing something right, as Akash has been in business for nearly 40 years.

We started with the King Prawn Puree (a two-person portion for sharing) – it was very good. We then chose a Chicken Dansak and a Chicken Jalfraijie (that’s how they spell it). The Dansak was a bit over-sweetened but nice none-the-less; the Jalfraijie had a good, fresh taste. Accompanying dishes of spinach and cauliflower were nice too.

When I asked about desserts, a menu was offered. But I was then told that none of the dishes listed were available, except for one flavour of Kulfi (which I duly chose).

The service was very efficient and friendly, and the prices are very modest.

The only thing that lets the Akash down is the lack of choice. The menu is very limited – e.g. there are very few tandoori dishes. And the dessert menu is clearly just a joke.

But the overall experience was good, and I would happily return.
