Vindaloo Vic

Definitive Reviews of London’s Indian Restaurants

Bengal 6

This is a small restaurant that probably gets its main business from local Bayswater residents, as it is some way from the area’s main shopping thoroughfares of Queensway and Westbourne Grove.

The interior is a bit dark, but the service was certainly efficient and welcoming.

Our starters, which included a King Prawn Butterfly and a Spiced Salmon Fish Cake, were pleasant if nothing special. But the main courses were disappointing. The Chicken Vindaloo had a good taste but it was not particularly spicy. Meanwhile the “highly recommended” Chicken Naga Bhuna (a “hot and aromatic dish”) was very bland and had a rather soapy taste. Desserts were the usual selection of bought-in ice creams – OK but not inspiring.

On the positive side, the prices are very reasonable. And they do claim that Paul Newman and Tom Cruise have both been past customers. Well, if it was good enough for them…
