Definitive Reviews of London’s Indian Restaurants

Potli 8

For as long as I can remember there was a restaurant on this site called Tandoori Nights. I was a regular visitor, but over the years it seemed to lose momentum. Last time I went there were only a handful of diners.

Now it is reborn as Potli. I’m not sure whether the same management are behind this rebrand (I doubt it), but it’s had a dramatic effect – both on the experience of going there, and on its popularity. The new look has a more Arabic feel, with colourful cushions and white painted walls. And the food is much better.

Our starters included their Mixed Non-Vegetarian Grill; this included a generous portion of all the regulars, but also some Tawa Macchi, a grilled tilapia fish steak.

The selection of main courses was slightly limited, but I went for their Chicken Curry “on the bone”; it was not particularly hot but it was very tasty. Others at the table enjoyed the Lamb Shank Rogan Josh and the Daal Tarka Panchmel, which includes “asafoetida”, a type of spice that is also known by the name “devil’s dung!”

By the time we left (on a Tuesday evening) the place was full, so the revamp/rebrand has clearly worked.
