Definitive Reviews of London’s Indian Restaurants

Zayka 8

Getting the service right in a restaurant is not always easy. Over-attentive staff can be irritating and intrusive. Zayka is a place that gets the service absolutely right — friendly, efficient, cheerful but not over-powering.

The restaurant takes the form of a large, minimalist room, just a few minutes walk from South Ealing station. It’s clearly popular with locals, being well attended on a Tuesday evening (but not too busy), and with a steady stream of take-away customers arriving at regular intervals.

The cuisine is described as “Indian and Nepalese” meaning that there are a few surprises on the menu, including Chicken Chola, a sort of Tandoori Chicken with an extra coating. I then tried one of their Goan main courses, a Chicken Jalwa, which was very tasty. Some excellent vegetable side dishes added to our enjoyment.

Once again our appetites failed before it came to choosing desserts, so I cannot comment. But to sum up: good food, good value, excellent service.
